If you have decided to move away from renting because you can afford to buy your own house, you will obviously need to get a mortgage in order to help you make the step. For some, this step proves easier than they expect, but it is much more difficult if you work as a contractor.

Mortgages tend to be a real thorn in the side for contractors. Since they don’t operate in the standard way in professional terms, mortgage lenders act a little more suspiciously to them. You may have experienced this in your own search for a mortgage.

If you have had trouble finding a mortgage with some of the more widely known lenders, you might find more success by looking for a dedicated contractor mortgage. It is entirely possible that you haven’t yet come across contractor mortgages yet in your search. This is because they are not many lenders proactive and creative enough to offer them.

However, mortgages for contractors do exist and it is just a matter of searching for them. Thanks to the internet, this is not as difficult as it might once have been. Contractor mortgages prove really attractive to contractors who want to enjoy owning a property instead of renting.

I live with my boyfriend and he is a hard worker – he is at work a lot and he stays late and often brings his work home with him. Because he is constantly working, I let him off with some of the chores and don’t force him to help me.

I carry out the hoovering, I wash and dry the pots and put them away and I do everything, I dont think he has every cleaned our toilet once and we have lived in our house for over a year. So if I never carried out any chores around the house, I truly believe that my boyfriend would be living in a pig sty because he hardly ever helps me around the house. Does your partner help you with the house work?

My friend was telling me a story the other day which really made me think and I feel it is important for me to share her advice with you here on my blog.

My friend was seeing a boy and they decided to take their relationship to the next level by moving in with one another, they both worked in Manchester so it made sense to get an apartment in town so save on the traveling costs of going home to an apartment far away.

When she was living with her boyfriend, my friend said it was lovely however they got to a stage where it was just dull and routine. She would get home from work before him, cook him a lovely tea, they would watch a bit of TV, then he would play on his computer game and she would go to bed so their was no spark their because it was just boring. Be careful not to let your relationship go stale after buying a house.

I have been living in my house for just over a year now and when we first moved in our gas and electric were with British Gas. One day a nice young man from NPower came knocking on my door and persuaded me to change the Gas and electric over from British gas to NPower.

What a mistake that was! Because we changed over at Xmas and it was obviously the winter period. It was peak time and NPower were charging us a fortune. So I decided to change over back to British Gas. British Gas were very helpful and I am now on a cheaper tariff again and because we have been paying a fixed amount every month we now have money left over so that when we use more gas during the cold months we will have enough money in the pot to last us.

I am quite a tidy person, I wouldn’t go as far as to say I am a perfectionist, but I don’t like going to bed knowing there are pots and pans down stairs on the work top in the kitchen which need washing. We do not have a dish washer so we wash all the pots manually.

I hover my house once a week, usually at the weekends if I am not too hungover. I change the sheets on the bed once a fortnight. I have asthma so it is really important for my health to keep the bed sheets fresh and clean so as to avoid the risk of dust mites and hair and other bits getting on to my chest and causing me to have to utilise my inhailer.

I was the pots every night and I also clean my bathroom once a week. I think it is absolutely disgusting when you see people on “how clean is your house” and they live in a filthy mess – it makes me sick. Those people should get of their fat lazy bums and get some house work done.

It is probably the most asked question in the world – who does the most house work and whose job should it be to complete the menial chores around the house?

I live with my boyfriend and my boyfriend has a job which means he has t o travel around a lot – it takes him an hour and a half to get to work and then the same in the evening depending on traffic.

This means that I get home most evenings before my boyfriend does. Before my partner got a job far away, he used to cook the tea and he would have my dinner on the table by the time I got home from work. I would then wash the pots after we had eaten and this was a fair deal.

however it is not working out so good because I now cook tea and also wash and dry and put the pots away because he is often too tired to do this. Also I couldn’t just leave them there and wait for him to do them because they would be there forever and it looks a mess and I hate having a messy house.

Again the current economic climate doesn’t just affect tenants but landlord’s aswell. Yes property is a good and a great investment and a number of people do find it to be quite lucrative. There are a number of unfortunate landlords out there who are struggling to make ends meet and sometime fall behind on mortgage payments allowing the rental property to be seized by the mortgage provider.

Obviously if the landlord has fallen behind on payments this means bad things for the current occupying tenants. The tenants will be evicted and given next to no time to vacate the property. If you are in this situation you can take it to small claims court and request more time at your own cost. Bear in mind that you may only get a few extra days.

Are you in rent arrears, in the current economic climate this may well be the case for a number of people out there. The current economic climate is making it harder year upon year for tenants to pay their monthly / weekly rent. Help from the government and councils is becoming is even more scarce by the day.

There are a number of other options and the first is always to try and discuss this with your landlord first to try and come to some sort of amicable arrangement. Just remember if it going to take you a couple of month to sort your finances out it is in the best interest of the landlord to allow this time on a smaller rent payment as finding new tenants will cost them more.

Beware of scandalous property agents around the country who are luring in landlords on small tenant finding fees. A number of cases are arising where agents are not willing to disclose even basic information about potential tenants leaving the landlord blind. Landlords are being put at risk by these agents as a number of bad tenants are being allowed into properties that cannot afford to pay. Also landlords will never know whether correct credit checks have been made against the tenants.

Another issue with a number of agents is the property management fees they charge. It seems a number of property agents sit on this money and do nothing for the landlord even basic checks are missed out leaving the landlord open to legal action from disgruntled tenants.

Councils all over the country are running out of properties very fast. A number of people being declared homeless are remaining homeless as the council has no means to help them. In fact a number of private tenants who are having to leave their rented accommodation due to the landlords request are being advised by councils not too move and break the contract law.

Housing advisors at councils are telling tenants not to move out of their properties willingly as they declare themselves homeless. It seems it is the landlord’s responsibility to pursue the tenant through court before the council recognises they are being made homeless to do anything about it. The council’s scheme of allowing their tenants to purchase their council houses has caused this problem.
